What is the foreign transaction fee on my credit card?
A foreign currency fee is the charge that is applied to non-sterling transactions made abroad. Our standard charge for using the card abroad is 2.75% of the amount of the transaction. However, we do have 2 credit cards where this isn't charged (Ulster Bank Credit Card and Reward Black Credit Card). If you use your credit card a lot abroad then you might want to consider looking at one of these credit cards.
It is also possible to take out cash when you are abroad. A handling fee of 3% of the cash withdrawn is charged (or a minimum fee of £3) to use this service and will appear on your statement as a 'Cash Fee'.
In order to help customers know how much a transaction abroad will be, we have created a Card Currency Calculator. It can be used to find out how much it will cost to use you credit card or your debit card when not in the UK.
