Understanding Overdrafts
To apply for an overdraft, you need to be:
- aged 18+
You can add an overdraft to your account once your course has started.
Medical Elective Loan
If you're a QUB medical student, you can apply for up to £15,000 to fund your elective studies. An element of the loan may also be used to fund your final year.
You must begin to repay the loan within 12 months of graduating and complete payments within 5 years, or you can delay repayment for up to 2 years.
Elective loans are available to existing and new to bank customers (subject to credit review and approval).
Thinking of switching your bank account to us?

All you need to do is tell us the details of your old bank account and when you want the Switch to start.

Get ready to apply
Before you apply, we need to check you're happy with a few things and ask you a few questions up front. Then we can make your application as quick and simple as it can be.
First things first. You can apply if you:
- You are a full-time, third-level student
- Your course lasts at least two years and no more than five years
- You are aged 18+ and either a UK Citizen or have been living in the UK for at least 3 years
You must use your Ulster Bank Student Account as your main account and pay in regular amounts such as parental contribution, salary, student loan or other funding. Only one current account is permitted for each student.
