How do I register my credit card for travel?

If you intend to use your personal credit or debit card abroad it is best that you let us know. Telling us in advance that you're travelling will notify our transaction monitoring systems you will be using your credit or debit card abroad. This will significantly reduce the likelihood of your transactions being blocked.

Using your credit card abroad

If you're travelling abroad and plan to use your credit card to pay for things, let us know at least 24 hours in advance and you should be able to spend freely without worrying about your card being blocked.

If you are signed up for Anytime Internet Banking you can log on and register the details of your trip yourself by completing the online form. It only takes a few minutes.

  1. Log in to Anytime Internet Banking at www.anytimebanking.ulsterbank.co.uk (opens in a new window)
  2. Select 'Cards' from the main menu
  3. Register your travel plans in the 'Going abroad?' section
  4. For credit cards select 'Manage your travel plans for your credit card'

How to let us know you will be using your debit card abroad.

If you have used your card and the payment has been declined, you should check that:

  • you have sufficient funds in the account
  • the merchant accepts your card type
  • your card is active

If you need to clarify any of these checks you should contact Credit Card Services. Make a note of the following numbers before you travel, so that you can get in touch with us easily if you need to.

Please have your Customer Number and PIN ready as this will enable your call to be answered faster and more securely. These are the same details you use to log in to Anytime Internet Banking.

It's also worth making sure you give us your current mobile number, just in case we need to contact you when you are away. Your service provider may charge you to receive calls or texts abroad so it's best to check with them before you go.

We always recommend you have other payment methods with you when you travel abroad. (eg other debit cards, credit cards or foreign currency).
