How do I close my account?

We're sorry to see you go. If you're sure you want to close your account with us, we'll help you find the best way. Depending on your account type, you may be able to close it via our Mobile App or Anytime Banking.

What type of account would you like to close?

Visit us in branch

To close your current account, come and visit us in any Ulster branch. Please bring your debit card, PIN and proof of ID with you and we will be happy to help. 

If your account is joint and requires two signatures, both of you will need to be present to close the account.

What type of savings account do you have?
Is your account in your sole name, or a joint account that only requires one signature?
If your account is joint, and requires 2 signatures, answer 'No'.

Close your account online

The quickest and easiest way to close your account is via Anytime Banking.

If you don't have another account with us, you should make your balance £0 before closing your account.

This includes your Cash ISA as long as you don't want to transfer the funds to another ISA product or provider

To close a savings account online:

  1. Log in to Anytime Internet Banking 
  2. On the 'Account summary' page select the account you wish to close
  3. At the bottom of your mini statement for that account, select 'View account details'
  4. Below the account details, select 'If you need to close your savings account we can help you with this form'
  5. Complete the information asked for on the form and submit

Once you've submitted the form your account will be closed within 72 hours, subject to any additional information we might require.

If you prefer, you can also close your account by visiting us in any branch, along with your debit card, PIN and proof of ID, or by writing to us by post.

Visit us in branch to close your account

You can close your account by visiting any branch, along with your debit card, PIN and proof of ID. As your account is two to sign, all parties must be present with ID.

When writing to us, please include your account details, signatures, date, and tell us where you'd like any remaining balance to be sent to. As your account requires two signatures, remember both of you will need to sign the letter.

Visit us in branch or write to us by post

Visit us in any Ulster branch, along with your debit card, PIN and proof of ID and we can help you close your account. If you don't have a debit card related to your savings account, please bring in an active debit card for any account you hold with us.

When writing to us, please include your account details, signature, date, and tell us where you'd like any remaining balance to be sent to.

If you are closing a Fixed Term account before maturity, an Early Closure Charge may be deducted from the balance. 

Close your credit card online or in our mobile app

The quickest and easiest way to close your credit card is through your mobile app or Anytime Banking. Simply go to the credit card you'd like to close and select 'close this account'. We'll then ask you to fill out some details and confirm you'd like to close the credit card.

If you prefer, you can contact our credit card team by chatting to Cora online or in our mobile app. Simply type "Close my credit card" into Cora and follow the instructions from there.

Getting a settlement figure and closing your loan early

The quickest way to get a settlement figure and pay off your loan account is via the mobile app.

1. Download and log in to our mobile app.

2. Click on loan account.

3. Click 'See payment options'.

4.Click 'Repay in full'.

5. Your Settlement quote including any early repayment fees will be shown in the journey (you will be able to download a PDF).

6. If you then decide to pay off your loan, you can by following the on-screen instructions.

It’s important to remember that if you repay your loan early, you will be charged an Early Repayment Fee.

The amount you will be charged will be equal to 58 days’ interest on the amount you repay early (28 days’ interest if the period of the loan is one year or less). If there are fewer than 58 days (or 28 days if applicable) remaining on the loan, the calculation will be based on the actual number of days remaining. This is in addition to your outstanding loan amount and any outstanding interest.
