What is 'Pay someone new' in the mobile app?

With 'Pay someone new' in the mobile app you can make a payment using just an account number and sort code without having to set up the payee in Anytime Internet Banking.

  1. From the Home screen, select the 'Pay' button from the account you would like to make the payment from, followed by 'Make a payment'.
  2. Choose 'Select payee' then 'Pay someone new'
  3. Enter the payee's name, account number and sort code
  4. Enter a reference and choose the amount and date. This date can be the current date or, if you have signed up to Biometric approval, a date in the future

To ensure your money is safe, we will sometimes ask you to authorise a payment.

  • If you have registered for face biometrics, we will ask you to use this and you will be able to authorise a new payment up to £20,000.00 for Personal customers or £50,000.00 for Premier and Business customers. Mobile payment limits apply.

If you haven’t registered for face biometrics you can

  • Use Face ID/Touch ID on iOS, fingerprint on Android or your app passcode up to the mobile app daily limit.

If you would like to save the payee details to pay again another time; while making a payment to someone new, you can use the "Save payee details" option on the "Check and confirm" screen. If you have registered for face biometrics, the new payee will automatically be saved.

With 'Pay someone new' you can send a maximum of £20,000.00 or £50,000.00 for Premier and Business customers in a single payment if you are registered for face biometrics. The recipient will appear in your saved payees after the first time you make a payment to them and authorise using your face biometrics.

Once a payment has been sent the payee's account should be credited instantly, however it can take up to 2 hours.
