Why am I shown a payment notification when I try to cancel a direct debit due today?
If you have a payment notification message saying a direct debit payment has been made today, we will not have been able to retrieve it as it will have already gone.
You can cancel a direct debit online up to 8.20pm (UK time) on the day the payment is due to be taken from your account.
If you cancel your direct debit at or after 8.20pm (UK time), future payments will have been cancelled. However the payment due today has already gone.
Before you cancel a direct debit you should usually let the payee know that you're about to do this.
If you believe the payment has been requested in error, please contact a branch or telephone banking.
