Find out how Sleepeezee invested in solar to grow and save

Watch our latest video with Sleepeezee Managing Director Steve Warren, and Lombard Relationship Director Mark Lempriere.

UK bed manufacturer Sleepeezee, which was established in 1924, was one of the first manufacturers to produce pocket spring interior mattresses and proudly holds a royal warrant.

Although the business has been carbon neutral since 2019, it recognised it needed to further invest in technology and machinery to save on costs as energy prices increase, as well as build on its strong reputation as a forward-thinking and sustainable brand.

The company approached Lombard to help finance nearly 600 solar panels for the roof of its manufacturing facility in Strood, Kent. It has also invested in cutting-edge machinery to help its 300 expert craftspeople – many of whom live locally – continue to manufacture bespoke beds.

Reducing energy consumption

“The company was very aware of its environmental impact and the need to take action to reduce its consumption of energy,” says Mark Lempriere.

“It already holds a Planet Mark accreditation for its commitment to lowering carbon emissions. Installing solar panels on such a vast roof space – and committing to generating as much of its own energy as it could for a business which requires so much daily – was a huge leap of faith.”
