Government Help to Grow scheme: training to accelerate your business

Discover how business leaders are benefiting from a management programme specifically designed to boost growth.

Learning to be a better leader

Lawrie Chandler is CEO of Edale, a financial consultancy providing services to investment firms, entrepreneurs and business leaders in Reigate, Surrey.

Lawrie signed up to the course at Brunel Business School and says the practical curriculum at Brunel has helped him to “prioritise, productionise and produce quick change”.

Course leader Nathan King, who has been a scale-up coach and strategy consultant for eight years, says the 12-week programme provides business leaders with the insights, connections and support they need to create tailored action plans for responsible and sustainable growth.

Learning to make informed growth decisions

Gerry Docherty is Managing Director of WEEE Scotland, an electronic equipment recycling and repair service in Glasgow.

Gerry signed up to his nearest course at Strathclyde Business School in Glasgow and says the course provided a detailed learning journey. “It provides tools and frameworks to adopt and adapt to your own business and enables you to analyse your current business model and make informed decisions in planning for growth.”

Course leader Wendy Pring, who has 17 years of experience running her own civil engineering company, says mentoring and peer-to-peer learning can offer business leaders insights across sectors, geographies and business scale and size.

It is a great place for peer learning and network development. Collaborative and synergetic relationships between businesses can really bring golden opportunities for everyone.

Learning to model for growth

Louise Towler is Managing Director of Indigo Tree, a web design agency in Tring that specialises in digital solutions, content creation and search engine optimisation.

Louise signed up to her nearest course at Brunel University and says the practical scheme offered good value. She adds: “The course prompts us to think about how we can use the models and tools in our businesses and create a comprehensive plan. The quality of conversation in the peer groups is great and my mentor is very good too.”

Brunel course mentor Hilary Fearn is an experienced entrepreneur. She believes the course offers support through listening, guidance and encouragement.

“Working within a business can be very insular and this course will open leaders’ eyes to new ideas, new ways of thinking, and provide support, resources and help to widen their network.”

Learning to invest in your own potential

Rosie Boullin-Barrett is Finance Director at Seacat Services, an Isle of White-based business that provides high-speed boats used by engineers to construct and service offshore wind farms.

Rosie joined the course at Portsmouth University Business School and says it’s worth investing the time to drive business growth. “This course is an excellent mix of high-quality instruction, superb teaching backed up with comprehensive course notes, in a fantastic mix of online and in-person attendance, guaranteed to help your small business, and you, develop.”

Course mentor Katya Veleva has more than 10 years of mentoring experience. She says the programme is a brilliant opportunity to develop inclusive and sustainable approaches for future development.

“It is a great place for peer learning and network development. Collaborative and synergetic relationships between businesses can really bring golden opportunities for everyone.”
