Switch to Ulster Bank - What happens next

Switching your current account to Ulster Bank could be a smart move - and we'll make it easy for you.

Once your application is approved:

  • Your new account will be up and running within 10 working days
  • You will receive your new ATM card(s) within 10 working days
  • As long as you have sufficient funds in your account, you can start using it immediately

In order to complete the switching of your account, your old bank will provide Ulster Bank with information on your standing orders and direct debits. As soon as Ulster Bank sends a signed transfer of account form to your old bank the switching process begins and will be completed within 7 working days*. If you choose to close your old bank account - you should not use your old cards or cheque book once the switching process has started, as transactions that have not cleared may delay the switching process.

When switching your account to Ulster Bank, you may require a larger overdraft facility than we can offer online or over the phone. If this is the case:

  • Accept the overdraft limit we offer; and when your account is up and running, simply call into your local Ulster Bank branch and speak to one of our Customer Advisers.

Any increase to your overdraft facility will be subject to our credit requirements being met.

* We will always aim to meet these timescales. However, occasionally there may be exceptional circumstances in which they cannot be met.

Note: Requesting a larger overdraft facility within your local branch will result in a further credit search being made and this will usually be recorded with Credit Reference Agencies and may affect your ability to obtain credit elsewhere in future.
