What documents do I need to open a Student account online?

This depends on your current status. You need to provide one item listed in the table below:

We are required by law to confirm the identity and address of all new and existing customers. For this application we require two items from the identification verification table and one other original item from the address verification table, as shown below. We will return the items to you after your application has been fully processed.

Where applicable, documents used to confirm student status can also be used to confirm address.

Identification Verification
Please provide two of the following:

Student identity card issued by a recognised university/college, bearing a sealed photograph and signature
A photocopy of - either a passport, must be a current valid full passport. or a valid drivers license (Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland or UK licenses are acceptable)
A bank, building society or credit card summary statement. No more than 6 months old. Internet statements are not acceptable
If you do not have a passport or driver license we can accept:
A Gardai ML10 form. In these circumstance no additional information is needed for identification verification
Address Verification
Please provide one of the following:

Bank, building society or credit card summary statement. No more than 6 months old. Internet statements are not acceptable.
University/College letter of acceptance/enrolment offer/request for payment (must have ref number). Must confirm your acceptance onto the course.
Central Admissions Office letter of offer/confirmation of place. Must show CAO application number and address which is on the application. Internet download of letter is not acceptable. Must have been issued within last 6 months.
Mortgage summary statement. No more than 12 months old.
Original household utility bill. No more than 6 months old. Mobile phone bills are not acceptable.
Notification of determination of tax credits for the current year. Must be valid for the current/next tax year and issued within 6 months of the date of account opening
Current balancing statement from the Revenue Commissioners. Must have been issued within the past 6 months.
Current local authority/county council services bill. Must show address and have been issued in the last 12 months.

For my online application, I don't have any of the documentation listed to prove my student status, identification or address. What can I do?

If you are not able to supply us with any of the required documentation, please contact us on 1850 211 640 for assistance. You can contact us between the hours of 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 9am to 2pm. Calls may be recorded.

I applied online but got a message to say that you couldn't deal with my query at this time. What do I do?

If you receive such a message, please just call into your local branch and staff will be happy to assist you with your application directly.

I recently applied for an account online, how long will it take before I receive my pack?

Your account opening pack should normally reach you by standard post within 5 working days from the date of application.

How do I view my account once it has been opened?

You can register for Anytime Banking when you are applying for your account and we will send you out your new activation and PIN code. This will enable you to view and manage your account online. Alternatively you can call into your local branch or use our ATMs to keep track of your finances.

I'm having trouble filling in my online application form, who can I contact to help me?

If you are having technical difficulty completing the online application, for example an error message appears, you can contact us on 1850 300 365 where our lines are open 24 hours a day to help you. Calls may be recorded.

I sent my online application back, when will you open my account?

Once we have received all the relevant documentation from you, we will open your account within 24 hours subject to account opening procedures. Once your account has been opened we will send you a confirmation letter with your sort code and account number. . If you have been approved for a card, we will send it to your home address. It usually takes up to 10 days from the date we open your account for the card to reach you. Alternatively, by arrangement, we can send your card to the branch that you chose when you opened your account and you can call in to collect it.

I didn't opt for an overdraft at the time I applied online for a student account, but would like one now. What do I do?

Just call into your local branch and they will be happy to help you. Loans, overdrafts and other credit facilities are only available to persons aged 18 or over (whose course is a minimum of two years), and are granted subject to repayment capacity, status and conditions. You need to use this account regularly and repay the overdraft within one year of finishing your course. See Features and Benefits for further information.
