Missed the Bank or not near a Ulster Bank Bank branch?

We’ve increased the number of services available at thousands of Post Office® outlets across the UK giving you more choice as to how you choose to Bank with Us!

As an Ulster Bank customer, you can:

  • Get a balance using your debit card and PIN.
  • Withdraw cash using your debit card and PIN.
  • Pay in cash with a pre-printed paying-in slip.
  • Make cheques deposits with a pre-printed paying-in slip.

Using the Post Office


What you need to know

  • The level of service may differ at each Post Office®
  • Each Post Office® is subject to individual cut off times
  • Cash paid in through the Post Office® will be added to an Ulster Bank account 1 working day after paying-in
  • Cheques paid in through the Post Office® will be added to an Ulster Bank account 2 working days after paying-in
  • When using the Post Office® to pay in, cash and cheques cannot be mixed in the same transaction. Separate paying-in slips are required
  • Personal customers will not be charged when transacting through the Post Office®.

  • Ulster Bank branded Post Office® cheque deposit envelope(s) available at the Post Office® counter.
  • You will need a pre-printed paying-in slip for every Ulster Bank branded Post Office® cheque deposit envelope used.
  • There are no limits to the number of cheques that can be deposited.
  • Multiple envelopes may be required depending on the size and/or number of cheques being paid in
Subject to Post Office® outlet cut off times, cheques paid in through the Post Office® will be added to an Ulster Bank account 2 working days after paying-in.

How do I order a cheque book or credit book?

To order a cheque book or a credit book on Anytime Internet Banking select 'Payments and transfers' from the main menu. Then under the 'Credit/cheque books' section click on either 'Order cheque book' or 'Order credit book' as appropriate and follow the on screen instructions.

Please note: If the account you are trying to order a cheque or credit book for is not listed, then your cheque/credit book preferences have not been recorded for that account and you will need to contact Telephone Banking to place your order.

Will I be charged for carrying out transactions at the Post Office®?

Personal customers will not be charged for carrying out transactions at the Post Office®. This includes cash withdrawal, obtaining a balance and paying in cash and/or cheques at the Post Office®.

Business customers using the Post Office® are subject to the same charges applicable at Ulster Bank branches.

Why can’t I pay in at the post office using my debit card?

At present, you can pay in with a paying-in book, but not with a debit card.

How long does it take for cash to be added to the account when paid in through the Post Office®?

Cash paid into a Ulster Bank account through the Post Office® will be available for withdrawal 1 extra working day after paying-in (subject to Post Office® outlet cut off times). Please contact the Post Office® for specific outlet cut off times.

For example:
Pay in cash on Monday before the cut off time, your Ulster Bank account will be credited by the end of Tuesday.
Pay in cash on Monday after the cut off time, your Ulster Bank account will be credited by end of Wednesday.

How long does it take for cheques to clear when paid in at the Post Office®?

Cheques paid in to a Ulster Bank account will take longer to clear when paid in at the Post Office®. It will take up to 2 working days for the cheque value to appear on your statement after paying-in at the Post Office®.  

Funds will be available to withdraw 5 working days after paying-in at the Post Office®. Subject to Post Office® outlet cut off times. Please contact the Post Office® for specific outlet cut off times.

For example:
Pay in a cheque on Monday before the Post Office® cut off time, the cheque value will appear on your statement by Wednesday and funds will be available to withdraw by the following Monday.

Pay in a cheque on Monday after the Post Office® cut off time, the cheque value will appear on your statement by Thursday and funds will be available to withdraw by the following Tuesday.
